Pie and Doughnuts
I’m going to break out of my typical narrative voice and use the first person today, since it’s my birthday.
We decided to have Thia food for dinner with Bee’s family tonight in honor of the occasion. I don’t want to make a big deal out of the day, so we’ll get take-out and eat at his parents’ house along with his sister’s family.
Most of you know I like to cook and bake, and last Thanksgiving I made an apple pie that I have since been dreaming about. I decided to make one last night for my birthday dessert tonight. As I was making the pie I made a comment about how some people might think it’s weird that I would choose to make my own birthday dessert, to which Bee responded that it was actually a pretty typical Curly thing to do. I had to agree.
I also picked up a dozen doughnuts from Top Pot this morning, because I’m not sure that one apple pie will be enough for eight people. Although, when I’m completely honest with myself I have to admit that I just wanted apple pie and doughnuts today. It is my birthday after all.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of eating a Top Pot doughnut, you’re missing out. They are found only in Seattle and it’s well worth a trip to one of their few shops when you’re in the neighborhood. I believe Starbucks also sells them, but they don’t have the amazing selection you will find in an actual Top Pot. My favorite is the Double Trouble – a chocolate cake doughnut with chocolate icing. Mmm. Delicious.
Yay! I like the new writing style. And happy birthday! I’m sorry you didn’t get a more personal greeting. E and I are both sick. But maybe we can do some extended celebrating later this week!
Everything was delicious! Thanks for letting us share your birthday.
Courtney, I’m sorry to hear that you and E are sick! I would love to get together soon, though. Feel better!
It was a good birthday, and I was happy to share it with all of you! Thanks again for the beautiful pin cushion.
I’m glad you had a great birthday! I meant to call you all day, but ended up spending way too much time making a mickey mouse cake and using a drill in my kitchen, all while dealing with 4-6 kids age 4 and under. Yikes… Anyway, happy belated birthday!
(Oh, and I too love the new writing style!)
i would have kept the entire box of doughnuts and the pie to myself! i like how you think!
