Love At First Drive

After 8 years of faithful service, we decided it was time to retire Curly’s Green Machine. The decision was made a little easier due to a couple of things, first and foremost being that the family I nanny for offered to give us a car stipend in return for using my car to transport the girls to and from activities and school. We’d been considering our options for quite some time, were pretty sure what we wanted, and when this offer came along, we decided to go for it. We might be considered slightly crazy for buying a brand new car, but this particular model is impossible to find used. So, here is our new Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen TDI, with a manual transmission, of course (automatics are so boring). It has a diesel engine, which means it gets incredible gas mileage. Turns out that’s a good thing, since I’m commuting to Mercer Island now and spend a lot more time in my car than when I had a five minute drive to and from work (it’s now 25-45 minutes).

We’ve only had it for a week, but I must say that I absolutely love driving it. It’s fun and sporty and handles like a dream. As Bee pointed out, “It’s a German car.” Those Germans know how to make them.

We are looking for a new home for the faithful Green Machine, as it probably has many more miles of life left in it. It served me well, and will hopefully do the same for its next owner.
