Poppies

Yesterday the Grandma of the girls I nanny came over to spend the day with us, so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to carry out an art project I had in mind for the girls. With a nearly 3 year old and a 5 year old, it’s often wise to have another set of hands for messy projects. Their grandma is the sweetest woman and is willing to do anything the girls and I have planned for her. It’s always a good day when she comes.

We decided to make potato print shirts, so the girls and I went to a couple of stores to gather the necessary supplies on Tuesday. I’ll tell you, it can be very hard for a 5 year old to make up her mind about colors and patterns, but we finally made it back to the house with the T-shirts, paints, and foam brushes.

The girls decided on large poppies, so yesterday morning I cut the potatoes into the proper shapes while the girls played with Granny and then we were ready to stamp.

It was so easy and actually a lot of fun. The girls would brush the paint on each stamp (petal, center, and leaf), and Granny or I helped them place it on the shirt and push down. They were so excited to wear them, but alas, they had to dry for 4 hours first. Rest assured that 4 hours later they were indeed sporting their new flower shirts!

(The dragon hanging above the fireplace was an art project the girls and I did several weeks ago.)
