Summer Road Trips

Summer Road Trips

We were lucky enough to go on two short road trips to see family this summer. The first was a mini-family reunion with my parents and siblings (and spouses and kids, of course) in July. T-Bone got to meet several cousins for the first time and she loved it! She had been having some separation anxiety and was never far from my sight or arms in the weeks leading up to the trip, but she had no problem hanging out with her awesome aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. It was great! All but two of my siblings were able to make it, which is pretty good, as there are 7 of us. We missed them though!

Over Labor Day weekend we drove to Portland to visit my brother’s family. We’ve missed them dearly since he graduated and they moved. We used to live right by each other in Seattle, and saw them frequently. They just bought a house and they graciously agreed to take a brake from painting and getting settled in to let us come visit for a few days. We spent a couple of days at the coast and then went to the zoo on our way out of town. We had such a good time and it was nice to swap kids around a bit (it’s always nice to be able to hand T-Bone over to a much loved aunt or uncle for a little while!).

T-Bone got to play in the sand for the first time ever and she thought it was pretty fun stuff. She inevitably figured out how to get it up to her mouth, at which point I was done and we changed activities. I’m not really down with trying to figure out how to get sand out of my 6 month old’s mouth. Mean mom.

We sampled yummy local food, went shopping, had a bonfire, played on the beach, saw wild animals and just had so much fun!
